Written Observations
- After finding the object during the cane experiment, Avantika had less trouble formulating an estimate precised to the real measurement than Cindy
- During self click test, Avantika had received no returning echoes or vibrations which let her clueless on where the object was located. The same experience occurred with Cindy.
- A reason for that maybe be that while clicking, they couldn’t create a strong enough sound and in result the echoes didn't bounced back and create vibrations for us to sense and left us blinded.
- While conducting the magnified recording test, the recording was played back louder compared to the volume of the self clicks, in result both Avantika and Cindy were able to feel vibrations or returning echoes (not so much hearing them)
- The result the magnified voice clicks test was extremely successful as Cindy was 90% accurate and Avantika was spot on 100% accurate
- For the self click and the magnified voice clicks experiments, moving to the staircase created a silent environment with great acoustics rather than testing in the halls which made the experiment successful.
- While formulating the percentages of accuracy for each person and the averages, Avantika’s 100% accuracy for the magnified voice clicks brought them up to a 95%, which was the highest compared to the rest of the test and caused our hypothesis of echolocation being the most effective source of navigation for blind people correct.
